Giorgi Pkhakadze (Member) GEORGIA

Professor Giorgi Pkhakadze, MD, MPH, PhD, has extensive experience in public health across South Asia, Central Asia, Eastern Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. He has provided high-level technical expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of public health policies and programmes for the World Health Organization (WHO), several United Nations agencies, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), and the European Union, as well as for private consultancy firms, nongovernmental organizations, and both public and private healthcare institutions.

He has substantial experience working with large healthcare systems, including support to more than 47 private and 22 public hospitals across multiple countries.

Professor Pkhakadze is the Chair of the Public Health Institute of Georgia (PHIG), Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at David Tvildiani Medical University (DTMU), and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Georgian Medical Journal (GMJ). He is a Board Member of Relief International and serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Public Health Section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).

He is a Technical Committee Member on Healthcare Education Standards at the Health Standards Organization (HSO) and an Independent Expert of the Scientific Board of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine (NRFU).

He is currently a member of the Independent Review Committee (IRC) and the Independent Assessment Committee (IAC) of the Gavi Advance Market Commitment (AMC), and a former member of the Technical Review Panel of the Global Fund (GFATM), contributing to the rigorous assessment of global health investments and programmes.

Professor Pkhakadze has published several books and numerous international peer-reviewed articles in the fields of public health and medical anthropology.
